My new dog

This is a picture of my new greyhound, Thea, and myself. I adopted her from the Copper Creek Kennel at the JCKC race track outside of Monticello last week. I had gone up a few times to talk to Keith, who's the trainer at the kennel, and look at some of the hounds up for adoption. Thea (pronounced "thee-uh") really stuck out to me, not just with her beautiful brindle coat but in her soft and quiet manner as she took in everything. She is so sweet and I'm falling in love with her everyday.
Her name is short for Boadicea, the queen of the Ilceni tribe in Britain under the Romans. Boadicea (the "c" is pronounced like a "th") led an uprising of her people, who lived in what is now the Norfolk area, against the Romans due to the fact that they killed her husband, the king, and humiliated herself and her daughters. They routed the Roman legion and razed the Roman city of Londinium to the ground (London). They say that she's buried underneath King's Cross Underground station in London, beneath the Track 10 platform.
Anyway, I'm really getting used to what it's like to take care of a big dog, and particularly a big dog like a greyhound who's been raised to race and live with many other hounds. It's not easy, but definitely worth it. Like having a deer living in your house almost. It's still a trip to see her every day and realize how tall and skinny she is. There, now you know- Thea and I look alike, both tall and skinny. See, it was destiny.
