The Devil's Punchbowl

The weekend before last, February 10th, I drove to the other side of the San Gabriels facing the Mojave Desert to check out the Devil's Punchbowl and try to hike up to the ridge above that eventually leads to Mt. Baden-Powell. It was amazing to check it all out, even if the trail was too covered in snow to really get too far. I did make a go of it, though.

You can see the desert beyond the hills in the above shot; Edwards Air Force base is somewhere in the distance, meaning that above that desert out there is where Chuch Yeager first broke the speed of sound.

You can see my path through the woods in the snow. I had to stop and turn around before I slid off the mountain due to my poor snow shoes:

The landscape was simply gorgeous, and there wasn't a soul around at 8 am on a Sunday.

Here is another shot of the Punchbowl from another viewpoint.

Hiking deep in the Bowl.

I'll have to go back once the snow melts.
