Solo
So, sorry it's been a while, but here's where I'm at: Edie left last Wednesday to go to West Palm Beach and visit her family for a week, and I'm been hanging alone here, just me and the dog. It's been nice having the time to myself, but I really miss her a lot, and I realize something now: we are so good at giving each other time and space when we need it, that time alone is not too much of a stretch while we're together. I'm glad she's having fun traveling around south Florida with her family, I wish I could be there as well.
I got a job about a month ago teaching ESL classes to Asian students who are in the States primarily just to study English and travel around. The pay isn't great, but it's work and something to do during the day while we wait for the California legislature get off their butts and pass a budget. Once they do that, the school districts will perhaps start hiring teachers none too soon for the upcoming school year. One can hope.
I've also been nursing Thea- she went and knocked off one of her nails while playing with the ball, and I had to take her to the emergency vet to get the bleeding to stop. Normally I can stick one of her cuts in flour, and that will take care of it, but this was just too much, her whole nail to the quick had popped off. So she's hopping around now on her bandange and I'm trying to be a good nurse while she's laid up.
Brad and I have been surfing quite a bit- almost every weekend nowadays. We took my friend Rich's wife Akiko out to try surfing a week ago, and she really dug it. She still has to buy a surfboard, wetsuit, etc., but she definitely wants to go again. It's always nice to have more surfing friends, especially for long car rides to San Onofre.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the fall already, when all the tourists go home and the kids go back to school.
