Enumerator

Hey everybody. I've been busy, busy, busy, which is good. For the last 5-6 weeks I've been working as a US Census Enumerator, which is interesting to say the least. I've been going around, counting people where they live. The thing about it is that I'm really amazed how little people know about the census. Many people get very pissed off that I'm asking these questions, not realizing that it's completely confidential (for 72 years at least, when the information is released to the Library of Congress for such things as records for geneaologists), it's mandated literally IN THE CONSTITUTION, and that you are legally required to answer. If you don't you can get fined up to $500.

The reason for the census is to know how many people live in an area so the gov't. will know how many hospitals, schools, amount of roadwork, nursing homes, etc., are needed in an area. Then federal funds will flow to that area as needed. So sometimes it's hard not to get angry at stubborn people who won't answer my questions, since each person who's counted counts for $10,000 for that area.

I must admit that I've been pretty good at counting people, though. I've managed to almost always get the info, if not from the people themselves, then through proxies such as next door neighbors, apartment building managers and the like.
